The Beckmead Trust has partnered with Teach Rock

Working in partnership to:

  • Improve special needs students’ lives across the UK by bringing the sound, stories, and science of music to all classrooms.
  • “Kids come to us with certain gifts intact–imagination, curiosity, energy, emotion, instincts. We should use those gifts instead of ignoring them, and integrating the Arts is the best way to do it”
    – Stevie Van Zandt

TeachRock is a standards-aligned, arts integration curriculum that uses the history of popular music and culture to help teachers engage students.

The Beckmead Trust has been piloting TeachRock materials across some of its schools with great success. Beckmead has submitted two bids to further extend the work in its academies and to introduce TeachRock it into the secure estate in the UK.

Innovative lesson plans developed by experienced educators and top experts in the field foster genuine learning in areas including social studies, language arts, geography, science, STEAM, general music and more. TeachRock has crafted engaging and meaningful material for every classroom, and developed exciting professional development workshops to share it with teachers. All for free. No cost, period.

TeachRock is endorsed by the New Jersey School Boards Association, the National Council for the Social Studies, the National Association for Music Education and the National Council for Geographic Education, with partners including Scholastic Inc., HBO, PBS, Reelin’ in the Years, ABC News, Rock’s Backpages, New York University Steinhardt School, and the Grammy Museum.

TeachRock’s Partner District and Schools Program operates in over 100 sites in five states. TeachRock Partners receive cyclic professional development and technical assistance in curricular implementation.

TeachRock is an educational project focused on the history of Rock and Roll, the music that changed the world. Presented by Steven Van Zandt’s Rock and Roll Forever Foundation, TeachRock is the first curriculum to be rolled out nationally that explores the music and its world in this depth. From its roots in Blues, Country, Gospel, and R&B, Rock and Roll and its related forms have—for over five decades—touched all facets of our lives, private and public. Rock and Roll is experienced not simply as a sound culture, but as a cinematic and televisual culture, a literary culture, a fashion culture, a political culture, a dance culture, and more. It is lived in many ways. And now, with the introduction of the TeachRock curriculum, it can be studied in the same style
