It is with great pleasure that we share the news of Beckmead College's OFSTED grade. This positive outcome will further enhance our standing in the community, ensuring that students continue to feel safe, valued, and capable of achieving excellent results. 

Since opening, leaders, trustees and governors have worked effectively together to develop aspects of the school’s work. They are ambitious for their pupils. Pupils study a range of academic subjects, such as mathematics, English and science. In addition, they choose from a wide vocational offer which includes carpentry, plumbing, mechanics and hospitality and catering. Pupils benefit from the well-equipped workshops for these courses. Staff help pupils to achieve relevant and useful qualifications during their time here. Pupils follow a pathway that gives them the skills and knowledge they need to access further education, training or employment. This means that pupils are well-prepared for their next steps and adulthood.

Staff are proud to work here. Leaders are mindful of staff well-being and workload. Representatives of the trust and school leaders ensure that staff are well-trained to support pupils’ complex needs. When pupils join the school, staff gather a wide range of information about pupils’ abilities, needs and interests. They use this to guide pupils onto suitable courses and pathways.'

' It is clear to see that the school’s motto of ‘Building Positive Aspirations’ is threaded through the work of the school. Pupils feel safe to make mistakes and take chances. Pupils view themselves as learners and are proud of their school. At all sites of this nurturing school, there is a calm and happy environment, and pupils are greeted by smiling, caring staff. Leaders expect all pupils to behave well and try their best in lessons. Pupils feel safe at the school. They say that bullying is not a problem. If there are any disagreements between pupils, leaders sort this out quickly. Pupils know that there are familiar members of staff they can talk to if they are worried or upset. Pupils learn a broad range of academic subjects at the school, including English and mathematics. Pupils also learn important social skills, such as how to get along with friends and how to sort out any disagreements in a calm way. Staff at the school are dedicated, and they understand the needs of the pupils very well. They notice if a pupil needs extra help, and they provide support calmly and expertly. Leaders and the school staff focus on helping pupils to develop their independence and resilience'.

The awards celebrate the everyday acts of kindness by members of the public going above and beyond to make a difference where they live.

Jonty Clark and Adrienne Cherrywood have been nominated for raising funds and delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine.

Jonty and Adrienne are finalists in the Fundraiser category for an individual or group of people who have gone the extra mile to raise funds for a good cause.

The awards celebrate the everyday acts of kindness by members of the public going above and beyond to make a difference where they live. There are eight award categories including a new one this year for Bravery (all categories listed below).

The winners will be announced at our Make a Difference Awards ceremonies hosted by local BBC radio stations up and down the country in September and across all local BBC radio stations on their afternoons shows.

The Beckmead Trust will observe the mourning period but continue to support our pupils, families and staff.
